Metung race reports: Marcus Hamilton
The fleet got away after a general recall where the fleet was pushed over by a
mixture of current and enthusiasm.
The boats that hit the left corner found more pressure and favourable angle,
whilst the boats in the centre & right side floundered.
At the top mark the leading group included J.Newman, Chris Piele, Robin Dayes
and Denis Jones. As the the breeze built, Dayes and Piele found themselves overlayed
to the gate and Hamilton was allowed to slip through the inside.
Newman was well clear, which was lucky because he was battling vertigo and had
to talk himself through each manoeuvre. Jones and Hamilton battled for the
minor positions, and had then had some nervous moments on the downwind to the
finish as Hill, Robin, Thor and P.Newman charged down on the front of a
pressure line. Jones and Hamilton hung on, and turned around to watch a
spectacular finish with Hill finding the gap ahead of the bunch.
